Governor Heineman will help North Star students KnowHow2GO to college
(LINCOLN, Nebraska, November 12, 2007) – Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman will participate in a "pep rally" event at North Star High School in Lincoln Wednesday, November 14 that will help 9th and 10th graders learn the steps they need to take to make college a reality. The pep rally is based on the KnowHow2GO college-access campaign.
KnowHow2GO is a national campaign that promotes four steps 8th - 10th graders need to follow to make college a reality. EducationQuest Foundation is coordinating the campaign in Nebraska and has conducted KnowHow2GO pep rally events at schools across the state.
During the event, students will learn about the following steps in a fun, interactive way:
1. Be a pain - in a good way. Ask an adult to help guide you to college and keep asking until you find someone who will.
2. Push yourself. Take rigorous coursework in high school and get involved in extracurricular activities.
3. Find the right fit. Discover colleges that match your career interests and skills.
4. Put your hands on some cash. Apply for scholarships and financial aid.
Others participating in the event are North Star Principal Dr. Nancy Becker; motivational speaker and youth advocate Joe Ballard; North Star teachers Jason Leimbach and Sara Hollcraft; University of Nebraska-Lincoln Admissions Counselor Autumn Bluestone; EducationQuest Director of College Planning Les Monroe; and EducationQuest College Planning Specialist David Duzik who will emcee the event.
EducationQuest has also conducted KnowHow2GO pep rally events at Falls City High School, Ogallala High School, Horizon Middle School in Kearney and Lewis & Clark Middle School in Omaha.
