As a guidance counselor, you play a vital role in helping students transition from high school to college. Since school budgets often do not allow for professional development, EducationQuest Foundation created the Guidance Counselor Enrichment Scholarship to provide counselors with resources they need to help students access higher education.

Questions

In 2009, EducationQuest will award six scholarships to fund attendance at college and career-planning conferences and to fund college-access programs and materials for recipient schools.

• Two counselors will attend the Great Plains Association for College Admission Counseling (GPACAC) Conference on April 19-21, 2009 in Overland Park, KS.
• Two counselors will attend the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) Conference on September 24-26, 2009 in Baltimore, MD.
• Two counselors will attend the Careers Conference in late January/early February 2010 – location TBD.

Each scholarship will cover the cost of conference registration, transportation, and hotel accommodations.

Each recipient's school will also receive $1,000 to implement college-access programs or to purchase college prep materials. Allowable expenses include:

• Career or college planning software, books, magazines, videos, DVDs
• Students' travel expenses for college visits, college fairs
• Test prep books, materials, software
• Expenses to conduct workshops or parent meetings
• Reasonable honorarium for guest speakers
• Substitute teacher (while counselor attends conference)

Funds may not be used to purchase furniture, office supplies, college tuition, or computers. EducationQuest will review requested expenditures, other than those listed above, on a case-by-case basis.

All Nebraska high school guidance counselors are eligible to apply. Membership in conference-related organizations is not required. You may indicate a preference for any or all conferences but can receive only one scholarship.

Selection is based on your response to the essay questions on the application. Preference points will be awarded to applicants who have never attended the conference for which they are applying or last attended before January 1, 2004.

Applications must be postmarked or submitted online by January 30, 2009. We will notify applicants of the results by March 6, 2009.
